Finding a reliable mechanic or garage in Kitwe and Ndola
Every driver on the Copperbelt has a story about a repair that cost twice the quote. Here is how to find a garage that fixes the problem, charges what it said and gives you your old parts back.

Roads between Kitwe, Ndola, Chingola and the mines are hard on cars. Potholes, dust and long distances mean most drivers on the Copperbelt need a good mechanic more often than they would like.
The problem is not finding a mechanic. There is one on almost every corner. The problem is finding one you can trust with your car and your money.
Why reviews matter more for garages
With a garage you can't easily check the work yourself. You don't know if the part they replaced was really broken, or if the "original" part is original. That makes a garage's reputation, built over many customers, the best guide you have.
When you read reviews of a garage, look for:
- "The final price matched the quote." The single most valuable thing a review can say.
- "They showed me the old part." Honest mechanics are happy to.
- "Fixed it the first time." Repeat visits for the same problem are expensive.
- Long-term customers. "I've taken my cars here for five years" is worth more than any number of stars.
- How they handle complaints. A garage that replies to a bad review and offers to look at the car again is one that stands behind its work.

Before you leave your car
- Describe the problem clearly, and write it down. Note when it happens: when braking, when cold, at high speed. Send it on WhatsApp so there is a record.
- Ask for a quote before any work starts. Ask them to call you before doing anything that isn't on the quote. "We found another problem" is sometimes true, but you should agree to it first.
- Ask about parts. Are they new, original, after-market or used? All can be fine, but the price should match, and you should know which you are getting.
- Agree when the car will be ready. And ask them to tell you if that changes.
- Take photos of the car, including the dashboard showing the mileage and fuel level.
When you collect
- Ask for your old parts back. It is the simplest way to know a part was actually replaced.
- Get a receipt that lists the parts and labour separately.
- Test drive before you pay, if you can, and check the problem is gone.
- Ask about a warranty on the work, even if it is just a few weeks.
Warning signs
- They won't give a price until the car is already opened up.
- A small job becomes a long list of "urgent" problems.
- They insist on cash only and give no receipt.
- Your car is kept for days with no updates.
- Parts are "on order" again and again.
Car washes count too
A good car wash is a small thing that makes a big difference, especially in the Copperbelt dust. Reviews mention whether they clean properly inside, take care with the paint, keep to the time they promise and keep cars secure. These are all easy for customers to judge, so the reviews are very reliable.
Elsewhere on the Copperbelt
If you are in Chingola, Mufulira, Luanshya or Chililabombwe, see all towns on the Copperbelt for local garages. You can also add a good mechanic you know who isn't listed yet. Many of the best are small workshops that rely on word of mouth.
Leave a review after your repair
A good review helps an honest mechanic get more work. A fair, specific bad review warns other drivers. Say what was wrong, what they charged compared with the quote, and whether the problem stayed fixed. It takes a minute and you don't need an account.
