What we collect
- Reviewers: your name, rating, review, optional town, optional voice note and optional phone number. A scrambled (hashed) version of your internet address, to stop spam. A cookie with a random id for the phone you write reviews from (stored scrambled), so we can spot one phone writing many reviews and stop owners reviewing themselves. It is only set when you write a review or use a business dashboard, and is never shown or shared.
- Customers a business asks: the name and WhatsApp number the business enters.
- Businesses: account name, email, business details, and payment records from Lenco.
- Records for court orders: the internet address and time of each review, question, answer and suggestion, kept encrypted and separate from everything else for 365 days, then deleted automatically. Only a court order can unlock them: a small number of ZedReviews staff can open them, only for a recorded court order, and every look is logged. Businesses never see them.
- Legal complaints: when a business disputes your review, we keep the complaint, your answer and any evidence either side sends, to decide it and to show we followed the law.
Who sees it
- The public sees the review, first name and surname initial, town and voice note.
- The business you reviewed also sees your full name and the phone number you gave, so they can contact you about your experience.
- We never sell your data and never show phone numbers publicly.
AI
- Phone and NRC numbers typed into a review are removed before it is saved.
- We use Anthropic's Claude AI to check new reviews against our rules, write the short "What customers say" summary on business pages, and help businesses draft replies. For this, the text of reviews (not reviewers' phone numbers) is sent to Anthropic. Anthropic does not use it to train its AI.
- The AI never posts anything by itself. If it thinks a review may be paid for or written by the business, the review waits for a person to check it. AI-written summaries and drafts are labelled.
- In legal complaints, the AI checks whether the disputed words are a factual claim or an honest opinion (opinions stay up). Only when many disputes are waiting does it decide the oldest ones, choosing to keep the review when unsure, and our staff then check each of those decisions.
